Reducing dependence on mobile phone

Last month I was working with a coaching client and she was trying to reduce her dependence on her mobile phone which was causing anxiety from missing out.  I consider myself having a decent relationship with my mobile phone and I could have simply passed my own rules to her.  However this is not how I coach people so I started to ask questions and helped clarified her answers until we achieved the following actions for her to practice:

  • all social media notifications disabled; acceptable to open social media 2-3 times per day for a few minutes
  • phone on silence (not on vibration, totally silence and no screen notification) during all business and personal meetings, after 8 pm till 7 am and on weekends
  • phone away from table during meals and family time

I saw her for the following session two week later and the implementation of the above rules literally changed her life.  The effect it had on her whole family was astonishing:

  • reduced anxiety (after a few days)
  • no continuous interruptions
  • better quality time

Another happy client 🙂
